24 Minute Old School Tabata Workout
Print Workout Here

This workout is the way tabata was intended.  It’s meant to stimulate and focus on one muscle and exercise for 4 minutes, by only working them 20 seconds at a time.  The point is to really break down those muscle fibers so they can rebuild and gift you with definition…..without the constant 4 minutes of work.  Because who could do that?!

What you will need:

  • Weights

Warm-Up:

  • Included in warm up ;)

Workout: Complete one exercise at a time before moving on to the next.  Do each one for 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off, for a total of 8 sets.

  • Burpees/walks outs – Remember this is your warm up, so take it slow and get in to it before/if you really start jumping around.  This means you’ll get them out of the way right away.  You’re welcome.
  • Weighted curtsey lunges (switch sides every 20 seconds) – Grab your weights and complete these in a pulsing motion to really get that burn.  Start by going in to a regular lunge, and then kicking the back leg to the outside of your front leg….creating a ‘curtsey’ kind of look, without the bow.  In fact, we want you to keep a super strong and long core with your hips and shoulders in line with each other.
  • Kettlebell swing with weight – With your feet a little further than hip distance apart, drop down into a squat holding one weight with both hands, allowing it to fall in between your legs while also keeping your shoulder blades retracted.  From here, you’re going to come up and out of the squat, while ‘swinging’ the weight up with your arms to your face level or above your head.  Watch your form and listen for the verbal cues.
  • Fire hydrants (switch sides every 20 seconds) – In a table top position, lift one leg up so your knee is parallel with your hips.  From here, think of a dog peeing on a fire hydrant.  Why?  Because that’s exactly what you’re doing by kicking your knee out to the side.  This really works your bum cheeks ;)
  • Diamond jumps OR alternating squat with toe touch – If you’re doing the diamond jump, you’ll be jumping up to touch your toes together in the air (always landing soft and low of course, and if you can’t taking the modification) OR you can do squats with alternating toe touches to your inner thigh.
  • Hammer curls with shoulder presses – Holding both weights in your hands, and standing with your feet hip distance apart, knees slightly bent, you’re going to bring both weights up at the same time to complete a hammer curl (palms facing body), and then lift them up above your head for a shoulder stretch (palms facing each other).  Make sure to keep your abs engaged and your knees slightly bent so you don’t hurt your back when you take the weights up.

Cool Down/Stretching

  • Complete 5-10 minutes of nice gentle stretching.

Make today badass,
Ashley Dale Grant
