Homemade Apple Sauce

by | Oct 17, 2014 | Blog, Health

Since I’ve had my Vitamix I have made so much apple sauce. I never used to buy the store packaged stuff because I didn’t like the added sugars and preservatives in them. Making apple sauce is so much easier if you have a wicked blender or food processor, and you can make it as chunky or velvety smooth as you want! Apple sauce will hold for at least a week in the fridge, if not longer. I made a batch using 4 apples and I almost filled a 1/2 pint mason jar, it was about an inch and a half from the top. Apple sauce is great too in baking instead of butter or egg!

Ingredients:

  • apples! I mix a variety sometimes or just stick with one kind
  • Cinnamon if you wish

Instructions:

  • You can either cut the apples up, core removed, and throw them in a blender with a splash of water to get the blades going and add cinnamon as you go, if you like.
  • My favourite way, cut the apples, removing the core, throw them on a baking sheet and bake them for 350 degrees. I let them cook until my house starts to smell like apples, usually around 15-20 mins. I then throw them in my Vitamix with some cinnamon and that’s it!
  • Blend it to your preferred chunkiness or velvetiness :)

Enjoy!
