Do NOT Detox!

Question:  I love the proteins + shakes and thought that juicing might be a good way to add more veggies and vitamins. I feel like it (juicing) might be good to clear all the junk out, but wouldn’t be into anything hardcore. Any ideas?

Answer:  In my personal opinion I think juicing is one of the healthiest ways to “cleanse” because you’re consuming real food, and not putting random shit in your body that claims to do this, that, and everything else. There is no magic cleanse out there that helps you lose weight besides eating clean, which consequently cleanses your body of all the bad chemicals, toxins, and preservatives naturally. If the cleanse comes in a box, the ingredients look foreign, and it seems too good to be true…it probably is! Therefore, juicing can be the best option if you educate yourself about it, ensure that you’re getting enough calories throughout your day (so you don’t slow your metabolism), and you’re not looking at it as a weight loss tactic – because it’s not!  It’s a way of gently detoxing your body, and getting your body back into a regular rythym.  Most “detoxes” and weight loss challenges help you lose weight initially, but they are not realistic since it’s not something you’re going to continue doing for the rest of your life.  You’ll just end up putting the weight back on…and then some! Eating clean, along with things like juicing, can rid your body of all the toxic things we consume, and when you rid your body of these, your liver is good and ready to attack and fat cells in your body, therefore ridding your body of any unwanted fat.  All of this being said, I have juiced vegetables and fruits before, but I wouldn’t consider myself a “juicer”. If this is something you’re interested in, it would be wise to educate yourself on it before and grab a book dedicated to juicing alone.  There are natural ways that I cleanse my liver and body almost daily – Here are things that I do on a regular basis:

Lemon in your water and tea. Lemon is a Natures way of detoxing us, and it is something you can have daily. I love adding it to water, club soda, or hot black tea.

Cayenne pepper – Cayenne pepper is something I love to put on everything. Not only does it have natural detoxifiying properties, but it also has the thermogenic effect of helping you burn fat! Bonus!

Milk Thistle – This is a supplement you can buy that helps to assist your body in detoxing your liver. This is not something you want to have everyday, but it is something you can take for a couple weeks to help speed up the process of elimination. Read the label, and consult a Naturopath if you have any questions about this.

Water, water and more water. Drink up to help release and eliminate toxins from your body naturally.

Epsom salt baths. When magnesium sulfate (epsom salt) is absorbed through the skin in a bath, it helps to draw toxins from the body, reduce swelling and relax muscles.

Greens +. This drink is full of antioxidants!

The state and health of your insides directly affect the health of your body, your mental health, and heavily influence your weight loss success. Eating clean, and making other little efforts to keep the detoxification going on a daily basis, not only helps you lose weight and be healthy, it helps you feel good about yourself – because you’re taking the time to treat your body right
